Service Description:
|
Community outreach program that assists people with aphasia to engage and participate in conversation using supportive communication techniques * group sessions facilitated by speech-language pathologist, communicative disorders assistant and social worker * education and support for caregivers
A typical aphasia group session may include:
- discussing current topics and expressing opinions
- role-playing everyday communication scenarios to develop conversational skills of listening and reading comprehension
- supporting one another to participate and gain confidence in communicating

Eligibility / Target Population:
|
People who have aphasia as a result of stroke or brain injury * people who have completed or nearly completed their inpatient or outpatient course of therapy with a speech-language pathologist
* people with aphasia that is likely to remain the same or improve
* people who are able to participate in groups and maintain attention for longer periods of time
