Service Description:
|
Supports for people living with vision loss * research, public education, and vision health services * volunteer opportunities available
Accessible Technology Support - Introduction to new accessible technology options (apps and devices) for people with varying degrees of sight loss * tech bar for learning, sharing and problem-solving * virtual reality room for trying out new technologies * one-on-one and group sessions
Advocacy - Training for people who want to either self advocate, raise awareness, or join in a collective effort to challenge systemic discrimination and break down societal barriers
Children and youth (aged 0-29) - Resources and programs for children with a vision loss * support groups * parent information nights topics include sports and recreation, community supports and local programs, online resources, eye conditions, academic tools, and advocacy skills * teacher and educator support * transition guidance from high school to post-secondary school
Virtual Vision Mate Program - Volunteers to connect virtually with participants by phone or online at least once a week to engage in friendly conversation and offer support
Literacy - Support for people of all ages with sight loss for exploring alternative formats for reading, writing, or sharing thought with others * options to reading print (Braille, VoiceOver, synthesized speech, etc)
Culture, Sports and Recreation - Creative classes, community-based workshops, physical activities and excursions
Vision Loss Rehabilitation - Specialized training that gives people who are blind or partially sighted the practical skills they need to live safely and independently * also has essential emergency services, which provides urgent response to people with vision loss * contact 1-844-887-8572 or info@vlrehab.ca
CNIB Deafblind Community Services - provide specialized support and emergency services for people who are Deafblind * funded by the Government of Ontario * intervenor services and literacy programs enable people who are Deafblind to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them * contact Deafblind Services, Hamilton, 905-688-0022 ext 5333
Youth empowerment - Programs for youth to get together regularly with peers in a safe and inclusive environment * learn new skills, social interaction and physical activity * develop new communication, technology, community engagement, mentorship and leadership skills
CNIB Guide Dogs - Program to raise and train guide dogs exclusively for people with sight loss
