Service Description: The Senior Driver Renewal Program requires drivers aged 80 years and over to renew their licence every 2 years.

Once drivers reach 80 years of age they must:
  • take a vision test
  • undergo a driver record review
  • participate in a 45 minute group education session (GES)
  • during the GES, complete two, brief, non-computerized in-class screening assignments
  • if necessary take a road test
  • this entire renewal process will take a total of about 90 minutes

You can download the in-class screening practice test (part of the education session) in one of 16 languages as well as English and French.

  • this is a licence renewal program
  • existing and valid licences will be not revoked, but all requirements need to be met before your licence is renewed
  • once you've completed the group session and screening components you may be asked to take a road test or submit medical information from your doctor

Application: When you receive your renewal notice, contact the MTO Regional Scheduling Office (at the phone number above for Halton) in your area as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for your tests and group education session. You should not go to a driver exam centre or an MTO office to book an appointment.
